Roco Kingdom Beginner Guide: Your First Hours
A Roco Kingdom beginner guide for the global beta: first-hour route, starter choice, catching, elements, quests and what to ignore until launch.
Quick answer: in your first two hours, finish the academy tutorial, pick a starter you actually like, catch one Jini of a second element, and follow the main quest until the map opens. Do not grind levels, do not chase every collectible, and do not spend resources on a team you cannot keep — the global Quack Quack Test is wiped when it ends. The goal of the beta is to learn the systems, not to build a permanent account.

Everything you earn now disappears at the wipe. Test systems, learn the map, and save the optimisation for launch.
Step 1 — Finish the Academy
The story opens at the Magic Academy, the tutorial hub. It teaches movement, the camera, the first battle and the catch loop. Stay with it until the quest log points you to the open world; skipping dialogue only makes the first hour slower because the game gates basic systems behind those quests.
By the end of the tutorial you should have:
- A starter Jini and a working party screen.
- The ability to catch wild Jinies.
- Access to the quest log and the map.
- A first set of Roco Coins and basic items.
If any of those are missing, check the quest log before exploring. The quests guide lists the early chain and what each step unlocks.
Step 2 — Pick a Starter You Will Actually Use
The Chinese build offers the classic triad: Huohua (Fire), Shuilanlan (Water) and Miaomiao (balanced). The global beta may present the choice slightly differently, and Dimo is the showcase Jini most new players meet first.
Do not overthink it:
- Huohua clears early fights fastest and teaches you to switch when countered.
- Shuilanlan is the safer pick if you expect Fire-heavy early zones.
- Miaomiao is the most forgiving and the easiest to keep in a party.
- Dimo is flexible, but its long-term role is less documented.
The full comparison is in the best starters guide. Any of them can finish the beta story.
Step 3 — Catch a Second Element Immediately
The single biggest beginner mistake is running a team of one element. The chart is symmetric: Fire beats Flora, and Flora beats Fire. One counter-Jini doubles your options in every fight.
Catch the first useful Jini of a different element you see. Do not wait for a rare spawn, and do not release everything you catch — the dex records each species, and duplicate catches are useful for breeding later. The creatures guide lists the 465 recorded Jinies and where each family appears.
Step 4 — Learn the Element Chart, Not the Tier List
You do not need to memorise 18 elements on day one. Learn these three rules:
- Every attack is also a weakness. If your Fire Jini hits Flora hard, Flora hits it back hard.
- Coverage beats power. Two elements that cover each other are better than two of the same element.
- Switch instead of trading. A bad matchup is a switch prompt, not a damage race.
The type chart has the full matrix when you need a specific matchup.
Step 5 — Follow the Main Quest Until the Map Opens
Early quests unlock the map, fast travel, the wardrobe and co-op. Side activities are tempting, but the map is the real progression gate: without it you cannot reach the regions where the beta's better Jinies and bosses live.
A practical first-session route:
- Academy tutorial and first catch.
- Windrest Province main quest.
- Merchant Town for the first vendor and quest hub.
- One detour to catch a second-element Jini.
- Lightsheir or the coast if your level allows.
The map guide lists all 44 spawn zones and what appears in each.
What to Ignore in the First Hours
- Perfect team building. You do not have the roster or the items yet. Use the best builds guide once you have six usable Jinies.
- Farming Roco Coins. Quest rewards are enough for the early game; the money guide covers efficient routes later.
- Breeding. It unlocks after you have a stable of caught Jinies; the breeding guide explains the gates.
- Cosmetics. The wardrobe is fun, but it does not affect progression.
- Tier lists. A tier list cannot fix a team with one element.
Systems You Should Touch Early
The dex. Every new species gives you a record and a sense of which families live where. It is the one collection system that stays useful after the wipe because the knowledge carries over.
Co-op. Joining another player's world is the fastest way to see a region above your level. The multiplayer guide covers how parties and shared worlds work.
The merchant. The travelling merchant sells useful consumables on a fixed daily schedule. Check it when you are in town; do not build a route around it yet.
FAQ
How long is the tutorial? Roughly 30–60 minutes if you follow the quests. Exploring during the tutorial slows it down without unlocking anything.
Can I change my starter? The beta does not offer a free starter swap in the opening hours. You can catch other Jinies, but the first pick is effectively permanent for that save.
Do I need to play every day? No. There is no battle pass or daily login requirement in the beta, and the test is wiped.
What should I do before the beta ends? Test the systems you care about — breeding, bosses, co-op — and note what you want to do first at launch. Progress itself does not carry over.
